The ECHS Card is a valuable asset for defense personnel. Digitization has given this card a new name i.e ECHS Smart Card. It is a 64kb smart card. This card has all the details of the defense personnel. It looks like an ATM. This card is mandatory when defense (or their family members) visit the ECHS center for any type of treatment.


Eligibility Criteria to Apply for ECHS Card:- 

Here we are providing the complete information of eligibility conditions for applying ECHS Card.Below are the eligibility rules for eligible ex-servicemen and ex-servicemen dependents.

For Eligible Ex-Servicemen:-

  • Applicants should be ex-servicemen and should receive pension from Indian Coast Gurad as well as Controller of Defense Accounts.
  • War Widows/War Wounded.
  • Person with disability/Unable to work
  • Medically admitted during training.
Details of Eligible Dependents:-
  • Soldier's Spouse
  • Unemployed son up to the age of 25 years (Self declaration Certificate and affidavit required)
  • Unemployed/Unmarried Daughter/Sister including widow eligible.
  • Physically/ Mentally challenged children/brothers/sisters are eligible.
  • Fully dependent parents whose combined monthly income from all the source is less than  Rs 9000.

ECHS Smart Card Online Registration:-
  • Visit the official website of ECHS and click on "Online Application" under "Online Smart Card Application" section.

  • Enter the Name, Service number and other details carefully and click on "Register" button.
  • Now you have to verify your email id and mobile number through OTP which has been received on your registered mobile number and email id.
  • Your registration will be completed as soon as the OTP is confirmed.
  • Now you can proceed with the application for a new smart card.
  • You will have to upload photos,certificates/affidavits and other documents.
  • Then you have to pay the fee for smart card i.e Rs 177 through online mode.
  • If your application and payment is successful, you will receive a slip.
Take a print out of the Slip and proceed to the nearest Polyclinic. Do not forget to carry all the required documents for ECHS membership. Polyclinic Workers will physically verify the documents and sign on the temporary slip. After a few days, you will receive the ECHS Smart Card.

In the meantime, you can use temporary Slip (Signed by Polyclinic workers) to get ECHS benefits.
