How to Link Aadhaar to PAN card?



A PAN card or Permanent Account number is a unique 10-character code, specified to all taxpayers in India. This card combines all transactions that attract taxes under a single source. This has made it very convenient for the government to keep an eye on these transactions.

All the residents of India can also apply for Aadhaar card. The Aadhaar card is a 12 digit number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India that serves as proof of Identity as well as proof of address for a person. As part of government's initiative to have a single document for each citizen of the country, the card acts as a personal identification card containing the biometric and demographic information of the individual.

You can link Aadhaar to PAN by following these simple steps:-

  • Type a message in the following format - UIDPAN <12 digit Aadhaar> <10 digit PAN>
  • Then, send a message from your registered mobile number to 567678 or 56161.

Importance of linking PAN card with Aadhaar card:-




Linking your PAN Card with Aadhaar Card is very important for the following reasons:-

  • PAN Cards which are not linked with Aadhaar will be deactivated post the deadline.The government has made it mandatory to link all PANs with Aadhaar.
  • Adding PAN to Aadhaar helps in dealing with the problem of multiple PAN cards issued by the same name.
  • If your PAN is not linked with Aadhaar, your income tax return form will not be processed.
  • Once done, you will get a brief description of the taxes levied for future reference.

It is important to note that PAN and Aadhaar linking is successful only when all your details match in all your documents. If there are spelling mistakes in your name, then your PAN will not be linked with Aadhaar. You can make changes through UIDAI website or through NSDL PAN portal. If there are significant errors, you can fix them by following these simple steps:-

  • The user will be able to correct their PAN details using the NSDL website.
  • The NSDL Link will redirect you to a page where you can apply for correction of your name.
  • Submit signed digital documents to update your PAN details.
  • On correcting the details in your PAN and verifying the same by NSDL in a mail, you can link your PAN to Aadhaar.
  • You can also do this by the UIDAI method, which is  relatively simple. Here's is how you can do it through the UIDAI website:
  • Visit the UIDAI webpage and enter your Aadhaar details and security code.
  • An OTP will be generated and sent to your registered mobile number.
  • If you need to change the spelling of your name, only OTP is required.
  • If you need to modify other details such as gender and date of birth, you will need to send supporting documents to update.
  • Once approved, the user can link their PAN card to Aadhaar.
