Ayushman Bharat Yojana (PMJAY) :- Introduction

Considered as one of the largest health schemes in the world, Ayushman Bharat Yojana aims to cover more than 50 crore Indian Citizens. It is specially designed for the economically weaker sections of the country. PMJAY was launched in September 2018, providing health insurance coverage of a maximum insured amount of Rs 5 Lakh.

The Government health insurance plan covers most of the medical treatment costs, medicines, diagnosis and pre-hospital expenses. Additionally, the scheme Ayushman Bharat Yojana provides cashless hospitalization services through an e-card, which you can use to get healthcare services in any hospital across the country.


Ayushman Bharat Yojana Eligibility Criteria for Rural and Urban Population:-



The scheme has been launched to cover the lower 40% of the poor and economically weaker sections of the country. It was based on the occupational norms of the Socio-Economic Caste Census 2011 for rural and urban areas.

Eligibility Criteria for PMJAY Rural:- The Socia-Economic Caste Census 2011 (SECC 2011) includes rankings of families based on socio-economic status. Rural families are ranked based on the status of their seven deprivation criteria.One who fall under at least one of the below six underprivileged categories, can avail this scheme.

  • Homes with only one room with walls and roof of Kucha.
  • No adult members in the age group between 16 and 59 years.
  • There is no adult male members between 16 and 59 years old.
  • There are no disabled members in the household.
  • SC and ST
  • The main sources of landless families and income are through manual casual labor.

Eligibility Criteria for PMJAY Urban:- Under the scheme, Urban houses are classified on the basis of occupancy. Below are the 11 business categories that are eligible for Ayushman Bharat Scheme:-

  • Beggar
  • Domestic Worker
  • Ragpicker
  • Cobbler/ Street Vendor/ Hawker/ Other service provider on the street.
  • Plumber/ Construction worker/ Mason/ Painter/ Labor/ Welder/ Security Guard/ Porter
  • Sweeper/ Gardener/ Sanitation Worker
  • Artisan/ Handicraft/ Tailor/ Home-based worker
  • Transport worker/ Conductor/ Train or Rickshaw driver.
  • Shop worker/ Peon in small establishment/ waiter/ distribution assistant.
  • Mechanic/ Electrician/ Repair Worker/ Assembler.
  • Janitor/ Washer Man.


PMJAY Nomination Process:- If you want to know if you are eligible for the scheme , then follow the below steps:-



  • Visit the official Website and click on the "Am I Eligible" icon.
  • Enter your Mobile Number and generate one time password.
  • Select your State.
  • Now, search either by your name, mobile number, HHD Number or ration card number.
  • The result will tell if you are eligible for the PMJAY Scheme.

Documents required for Ayushman Bharat Yojana Scheme:-

  • Identity and age proof (Aadhaar Card/Pan Card)
  • Details of your mobile number, email id and residential address.
  • Caste Certificate
  • Income Certificate
  • The documents state your current family status.


How to download Ayushman Bharat Yojana Card Online?




To ensure cashless, paperless and portable transactions through PMJAY scheme, Ayushman Bharat Yojana gold card will be issued to the beneficiaries. The PMJAY e-card contains all the necessary information of the patient. To get this Golden Card, follow the below steps:-

  • Visit the website and login with your registered mobile number.
  • Enter Captcha Code to generate OTP.
  • Opt for HHD Code.
  • Provide the HHD Code to the Common Service Centre, where they will check the HHD Code and other details.
  • Representatives of CSC, Known as Ayushman Mitra, will complete the rest of the process.
  • To get the Ayushman Bharat Card, you have to pay Rs 30.

  • Coronary Artery bypass graft.
  • COVID-19
  • Pulmonary Valve Replacement.
  • Skull Base Surgery.
  • Anterior Spine Fixation.
  • Tissues Expanders for dissolution after burning.
