As we know India is moving fast towards complete digitization, Tamil Nadu Government has started the digitization of ration Cards. Online application of ration card has been arranged through the Public Distribution System Portal (TNPDS).

TNPDS Smart Cards are being issued by the State Government under the PDS System. Along with this, the process of converting the old ration card to the new one is being worked out, which will bring transparency in the ration card allocation.


Types of Tamil Nadu Digital Ration Card:-

Tamil Nadu has basically four types of Ration Cards according to the economic status and category of families under the TNPDS System:-

  • Light Green Card issued for rice and other items from the fair shop in the state.
  • White Card is issued for 3 Kg of Sugar under the prescribed quota.
  • Those who do not have the right to take any commodity from ration shops are not issued any card.
  • Khaki Cards are issued for Police Personnel up to the rank of Inspector.


Documents Required to Apply for TN Smart Ration Card:-

  1. Aadhaar Card.
  2. Income Proof.
  3. Electricity Bill.
  4. PAN Card.
  5. Bank Passbook.
  6. Caste Certificate.
  7. Hall Size Photography Pass.

Objective of TN Digital Ration Card:-

  • All the processes have been made Online so that the cost of Paper is reduced.
  • All resident's information will be authenticated thereby preventing the implementation of fraudulent practices.
  • Transparency will come through Smart Ration Cards.
  • Printing and distributing Cost will be reduced.
  • As the whole process is made Online, which will save both time and money.

TNPDS Smart Ration Card Online Process:-


Follow the below process in order to apply for TNPDS Smart Ration Card:-

  • Visit the official website of TNPDS.
  • On the homepage, you have to click on the "Smart Ration Card Application" option.
  • Click on "Register Yourself" option given and register yourself on the website.
  • Now Enter the Login Id and Password and go to the website.
  • An application form will open in front of you.

  • Upload all the required documents by entering all the mandatory information in the application form.
  • Tick the declaration box and click on submit button to complete the procedure. You will receive a registration number, keep it safe for future purpose.

Apply TNPDS Smart Ration Card Offline through Fair Price Shop:-

  • Visit the nearest FPS Shop.
  • Here you have to get the application form. You can also download the application form online.
  • Fill all the information asked in the application form and attach the required documents.
  • Once done, submit the application form to the concerned department. You will be given a reference number with the help of which you can check the status of the application.


How to check the Status of TNPDS Smart Ration Card:-


  • One need to visit the official website of TNPDS.
  • On the homepage of the website, you have to click on the "Status of Electronic Card Application" option.
  • A new page will open in front of you. Here you have to enter your registration number and click on "Submit/Record" button.
  • Status of your Ration Card will be appear on your mobile/Computer Screen.


Apply for Duplicate Electronic Family Card:-
  • Visit the official website for Duplicate Electronic Card.
  • On the homepage of the website, you have to click on the option "Apply for Duplicate Electronic Family Card" in the menu.
  • After this a new page will open in front of you, enter the registered mobile number and captcha code and click on "Login" button.
  • A form will open in front of you, fill all the mandatory details in the form and upload the required documents.
  • Click on the "Submit" button, thus you can apply for a duplicate electronic family card.


Procedure to change details in your Ration Card:-

  • Visit the official website, choose the option you want to change from the options given (Add Members, Change of Address, Family head change and Remove family member).
  • Select one of the option and enter the registered mobile number and captcha code at the given location.
  • Enter details related to the change, upload supporting documents as required.
  • Once done, verify all the information again and click on "Submit" button.
